Honey bee health
Seaweed extract can help keep honey bees alive and buzzing
Seaweeds have anti microbial/fungal/viral properties, essential minerals, vitamins and amino acids that can support the immune system of bees and improve colony resilience.
From the few scientific trials conducted, feeding honey bees seaweed extract can have positive results such as; an increase in colony population size, more honey and fewer overwinter deaths. And it turns out bees like the taste of seaweed!
The polysaccharide (complex sugar) molecules found in seaweed can promote the growth of beneficial gut bacteria in bees and is often used by bee keepers to help combat the gut parasite Nosema.
Seaweed extract can be added to sugar syrup feed or used as a spray.
